Karim Benzema wins the 2022 Ballon D'or hosted in France

 


France and Real madrid forward Karim Benzema has won the 66th Ballor d'Or - award ahead of  Robert Lewandowski to be the men best footballer of the year 2022- for the first time in his carrier.

Benzema's scoring tricks in both La Liga and Champions league last season for Real Madrid, 44 goals in 46 matches  helps Real Madrid win the La Liga and Champions league in 2021-2022.

Lionel Messi (seven) and Cristiano Ronaldo (five) had won the award on 12 of the previous 13 occasions. Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas retained the Women’s Ballon d’Or, awarded to the best female footballer of 2022. England Euro 2022 winner and Arsenal forward Beth Mead was second.  

Premier League champions Manchester City, who had six nominees at the ceremony, were awarded Club of the Year ahead of Liverpool.
